It took me a while to learn how to rest better
Hello my dear !
After a longer time I am glad to be back. I was having trouble with figuring out what to write about, and I know others experience the same.
After having read an article by another writer on Medium I decided that today is the day to write again!
Today’s topic is what I have been going through a lot lately — how I know when my body and my mind, heart, soul, anything really, needs a break.
I have been on a quite a journey for the past two years and rest is a big part I needed to learn, because I used to use it in a not so positive way, such as, binge watching series every day, eating too much sugar and so on, so I needed to learn to find a balance.
Today I will be speaking about how my body shows it needs rest, the balance I have found and what I am working on.
How I know I need to rest
So … the way I know that I need to rest is when I start craving movies and chocolate in much bigger amounts, haha. But more seriously, my body speaks to me well, learning to listen has taken me more practice.
I will list some ways I can notice my need for rest, but with this I invite you to not take mine, but look at your own. To feel into your body, listen and understand your own ways.
Some ways I know that rest is the next thing for me :
- Craving to just cozy up in bed and spending much more time watching movies.
- Craving chocolate in much bigger amounts.
- Having more trouble cutting back on the scrolling.
- I have noticed that so much of my feelings I can feel in my chest, like anxiety, when I am in a faced paced state and so on. So, when I am tired, my chest feels like the warmth after a fire. Like when a fireplace has gone out but a little bit of warmth is still there.
- Being more irritated and having much less patience. Having to use more of my power to respond in a healthy way or becoming angry, irritated faster than usual.
- So these are some of the ways I know that when I get home, my cozy blanket is the first thing I take 😉
I also like looking at it like this — fill your own cup before filling everyone elses ! You have probably heard of this one before 😉
My favorite ways of resting
Rest used to be a thing I would use to escape other things, sometimes even abandoning myself and not really caring for my body. That was not quite good and it took me some time to actually see the truth.
But now how does my rest look like now :
- Journaling
- Meditation
- A walk
- Trying something new (I recently discovered my own adventurous side that I didn’t really know before ;))
- Reading
- Watching ONE movie and being cozy under a blanket (for more explanation, I used to watch 5 movies in a row (no kidding) so now it is just one and occasionally)
- Buying myself flowers, romanticizing my life in little ways
- Lighting candles and speaking intentions into the flame
- Aromatherapy
- Listening to ASMR that I find pleasing (I love energy healing ASMR, like reiki ASMR)
- Taking a bath
- Having a workout to move my wonderful body and it actually helps a lot
- etc.
Now you can see that the ways of resting I have developed are much healthier and really resting for me even happens during the day with implementing small moments, small actions through which I can take a break (I mentioned in my other posts about deep breathing, slowing down to the pace of nature, and now it’s also listening to ASMR since it really helps with calming the emotional turmoil or overstimulation).
I wish you the best with your own journey and self-dicovery.
What are your favorite ways how to rest ?
